Common Dyslexia Symptoms include seeing letters as 3D figures, seeing letters upside down, backwards, or flipped characters. It can also affect short-term memory and vision.<\/p>\n<p>If you think about it, there are many characters in the English language that are very easy to mistake. For example,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>V W<\/strong>: These are quite similar.<\/li>\n<li><strong>i j<\/strong>: These are quite similar.<\/li>\n<li><strong>m n \u00a0 \u00a0 u<\/strong>: Sometimes, Dyslexics rotate the letters.<\/li>\n<li><strong>b q p d<\/strong>: And, people with Dyslexia rotate the letters and they also exchange the letters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since the English alphabet makes it easy to make mistakes, a countermeasure to error-proof the English language by making slight improvements to the western script. In the context of lean, we call this approach Poka-Yoke.<\/p>\n<h2>Dyslexie Typeface: A Kaizen<\/h2>\n<p>Dyslexie Typeface was developed at the University of Twente by Christian Boer of Studiostudio. What they&#8217;ve done is simple but ingenious: they have exaggerated the differences between characters to make them easier to recognize. For example,<\/p>\n<p>Make the underside of letters more bold:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9252 aligncenter\" title=\"dyslexic-treatment-1\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/dyslexic-treatment-1.jpg\" alt=\"dyslexic treatment, 1\" width=\"120\" height=\"204\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lengthen the ascender or descender of letters:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9253 aligncenter\" title=\"dyslexic-treatment-2\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/dyslexic-treatment-2.jpg\" alt=\"dyslexia treatment, 2\" width=\"131\" height=\"196\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Emphasize the differences in the letters:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9254 aligncenter\" title=\"dyslexic-treatment-3\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/dyslexic-treatment-3.jpg\" alt=\"dyslexia symptoms\" width=\"282\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Make the openings in the letters\u00a0exaggerated to make them easier to recognize:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9255 aligncenter\" title=\"dyslexic-treatment-4\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/dyslexic-treatment-4.jpg\" alt=\"dyslexia treatment, 4\" width=\"293\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What Christian Boer has done is nothing short of a Kaizen &#8211; he, with his team &#8211; literally improved an age-old standard and made it work for people with Dyslexia.
