The process map or <a title=\"value stream map\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/value-stream-map-symbols\/8984\/\">value stream map<\/a> actually needs to be useful. To make it useful, a Value Stream Manager\u00a0should keep the following questions in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the purpose of the process?<\/li>\n<li>What is being done?<\/li>\n<li>When is it being done?<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"how to organize process owners for your value stream\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/process-owner-roles-and-responsibilities\/9128\/\">Who is doing it<\/a>?<\/li>\n<li>Where is it being done?<\/li>\n<li>How is it being done?<\/li>\n<li>How well does it do on the various metrics of importance?<\/li>\n<li>How long does it take to do?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The answers to the above question &#8211; there are more also, but the ones above are a good start &#8211; will help you arrive at a process map or value stream map that is actionable and reflective of the process.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, an interview is not good enough, but the questions must or should be asked during a <a title=\"gemba walk\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/lean-manufacturing-concepts-gemba\/8356\/\">gemba walk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!--CusAds0-->\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not good enough to be able to use process map software and create a process map or value stream map for the fun of it.
