Little do we realize that for those shoes you&#8217;re wearing, the <a title=\"bmw visually tracks their supply chain from factory to the customer\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/a-delightful-and-fun-supply-chain\/2116\/\">BMW car you are driving<\/a>, the coffee you drank this morning, and that shirt comfortably resting on your body, or that <a title=\"pizza orders are tracked by domino's online\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/strategic-supply-chain-dominos-pizza-online\/9243\/\">pizza you just ordered<\/a>, made a long and arduous journey to end up where it is.<\/p>\n<p>In a typical supply chain diagram, we might have three distinct events before it reaches the customer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supply Chain Events<\/li>\n<li>Shipping Events<\/li>\n<li>Destination Events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And each of the events are related to each other and, indeed, either proceeds or precedes the other.<\/p>\n<h2>Supply Chain Events<\/h2>\n<p>These events typically trigger the beginning of a supply chain and can consist of the following (in sequence):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Issuance of a Purchase Order (PO)<\/li>\n<li>Order Confirmation and provide Available to Ship (ATS)<\/li>\n<li>Sample Order Proof<\/li>\n<li>Sample Proof Approval<\/li>\n<li>Testing<\/li>\n<li>Arrival of Raw Materials and Components<\/li>\n<li>Production Planning (sometimes Sales and Operations Planning or S&amp;OP)<\/li>\n<li>Beginning of Production<\/li>\n<li>Production Inspection and Product Inspection<\/li>\n<li>Final Inspections (Quality Audits)<\/li>\n<li>Packaging<\/li>\n<li>Shipment Sample<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Shipping Events<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"13\">Shipment Bookings<\/li>\n<li value=\"14\">Shipment Approval<\/li>\n<li value=\"15\">Distribution Center and Port Split<\/li>\n<li value=\"16\">Cargo Receipt or Bill of Lading<\/li>\n<li value=\"17\">Scanpack<\/li>\n<li value=\"18\">Palletization (stack product on pallets)<\/li>\n<li value=\"19\">Design and Execute on Container Load Plan<\/li>\n<li value=\"20\">Export Customs Clearance<\/li>\n<li value=\"21\">Full Container Load &#8211; Load Product in Containers (FCL Load)<\/li>\n<li value=\"22\">Delivery of Containers to Terminal<\/li>\n<li value=\"23\">Export Customs Inspections<\/li>\n<li value=\"24\">Vessel Departs Port with Container of Products<\/li>\n<li value=\"25\">Carrier Completes Documentation<\/li>\n<li value=\"26\">Export Documentation<\/li>\n<li value=\"27\">Transhipment (Travel by on Vessel by Sea)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Destination Events<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"28\">Schedule DC Delivery<\/li>\n<li value=\"29\">Provide Advanced Ship Notification (ASN)<\/li>\n<li value=\"30\">Pre-Arrival Import Clearance<\/li>\n<li value=\"31\">Vessel Arrives at Port with Containers<\/li>\n<li value=\"32\">Import Customes Inspections<\/li>\n<li value=\"33\">Container Release by Customs<\/li>\n<li value=\"34\">Load Container onto Trucks<\/li>\n<li value=\"35\">Trucks with Containers of Product travel by land or rail to Distribution Center (DC)<\/li>\n<li value=\"36\">Truck arrives at Fulfillment Center (FC)<\/li>\n<li value=\"37\">Distribution Center receives merchandise<\/li>\n<li value=\"38\">Fulfillment Center documents receipts and stows product inside warehouse<\/li>\n<li value=\"39\">Container dehire and manage empty container and repurpose<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Does that supply chain look complicated to you? Yeah, me too.
