The report is a lengthy one, but has some key learning for us: some might be surprising and some might not be. In either case, as the company that systematized the Toyota Production System, it is informative that we learn from the mistakes of such an admired company.<\/p>\n<p>This is also a reminder for the rest of us that we ought not idolize any one company, but instead choose to learn from the good and from the bad from many companies, remembering that, like people, no company is perfect. Yes, even Toyota.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"report of toyota north american quality advisory panel 2011\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160507030336\/http:\/\/www.shmula.com\/http:\/www.shmula.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Image\/2011\/05\/Toyota-Quality-Advisory-Panel-Report-2011.pdf\">The Report of the Toyota North American Quality Advisory Panel<\/a> was led by the following panel members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rodney Slater<\/strong>: U.S. Secretary of Transportation, 1997-2001.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roger Martin<\/strong>: Dean of the Rotman School of Management.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Norman Augustine<\/strong>: Former Chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin Corporation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brian O&#8217;Neill<\/strong>: Former President, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patricia Goldman<\/strong>: Former Vice Chairman, National Transportation Safety Board.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Shella Widnall<\/strong>: Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and former Secretary of the U.S. Air Force.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Mary Good<\/strong>: Dean of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and former Under Secretary for Technology, U.S. Department of Commerce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Please read our series on the findings from the Toyota Quality Advisory Board:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a title=\"toyota recall, root cause\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/toyota-recommendation-north-american-quality-advisory-panel\/8732\/\">Toyota North American Quality Advisory Panel Conclusions<\/a>: The high-level summary of the findings from the quality advisory panel.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"local and global centralization and decentralization\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/toyota-organizational-structure-centralized-decentralized\/8750\/\">Balance Between Local and Global Management Control<\/a>: How can Toyota best balance decision making between Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and its regional operations in the North America and the world?<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"internal versus external feedback, toyota\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/toyota-venza-recall-quality-advisory\/9489\/\">Responses to Problems Raised by Internal and External Sources<\/a>: The panel found that problems raised by sources external to Toyota were not treated as seriously as those found within Toyota.
