And, it&#8217;s incredibly powerful in its simplicity. Let me explain.<\/p>\n<h2>What is The Purpose?<\/h2>\n<p>Most process improvement efforts often miss the first step:\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-weight: bold;\"><strong>What is the Purpose of the Process?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Another way to ask this question is to ask whether the activity is <a title=\"is lean aligned to the organizational goals or not?\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/no-organizational-purpose-detached-lean\/10097\/\">aligned to the organizational goals<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>When that question is asked first, it enables one to then ask an additional question:\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-weight: bold;\"><strong>Should This Process Need to Exist?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">If the first question is answered and articulated clearly and the second question yields a &#8220;YES&#8221;, then these questions logically follow:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the customer were to evaluate this process, what would the customer consider value-add?<\/li>\n<li>If the customer were to evaluate this process, what would the customer consider wastes?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Now, efforts are guided and direction becomes clearer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A corollary in product development is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creating a product nobody wants is waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Should We Improve This Process?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Asking the questions above helps a team to have vision and set its own direction in a way that is wise, prudent, and considerate of resources.
