Why is India so interested in Lean Six Sigma?<\/p>\n<p>United Arab Emirates? &#8211; what&#8217;s going on there that they are so interested in Lean Six Sigma?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"421\" height=\"294\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6061 aligncenter\" title=\"lean-six-sigma-training-india\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-training-india4.jpg\" alt=\"lean six sigma training india\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Certified-Sigma-Black-Handbook-Third\/dp\/0873899415?crid=1LVJIYR2JS7ZD&amp;keywords=Certified+Six+Sigma+Black+Belt+Handbook&amp;qid=1644695853&amp;s=books&amp;sprefix=certified+six+sigma+black+belt+handbook%2Cstripbooks%2C65&amp;sr=1-3&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=sixsigma09-20&amp;linkId=a48e03bb649213344faf013a9aaf68d2&amp;language=en_US&amp;ref_=as_li_ss_tl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6042 size-full\" title=\"certified-six-sigma-black-belt-handbook\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/certified-six-sigma-black-belt-handbook.jpg\" alt=\"certified six sigma black belt handbook asq exam\" width=\"549\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/certified-six-sigma-black-belt-handbook.jpg 549w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/certified-six-sigma-black-belt-handbook-300x110.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Assuming the data above is correct AND that we can gauge interest and intention based on search term, the following world regions are most interested in the topic of &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>India<\/li>\n<li>United States<\/li>\n<li>Singapore<\/li>\n<li>United Arab Emirates<\/li>\n<li>Canada<\/li>\n<li>Australia<\/li>\n<li>United Kingdom<\/li>\n<li>France<\/li>\n<li>Germany<\/li>\n<li>Afghanistan<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On the one hand, I expected some of the above, but there are some countries that I was very surprised to see on the list, like Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<h2>Lean Six Sigma in India<\/h2>\n<p>So what is going on in India?<\/p>\n<p>Without data to support my claims, we generally know that many back-office processes that were once performed in the United States have been outsourced to places like India, Philippines, and others. Often, this is called &#8220;Business Process Outsourcing&#8221; or BPO for short. This usually includes the following processes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Call Center, Contact Center, Help Desk<\/li>\n<li>Payroll<\/li>\n<li>Billing<\/li>\n<li>Human Resources<\/li>\n<li>Logistics<\/li>\n<li>Financial, Planning, and Accounting (FP&amp;A)<\/li>\n<li>Mortgage Processing<\/li>\n<li>Medical Card Processing<\/li>\n<li>Other Support Functions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Quality-Improvement-Handbook-Second\/dp\/0873896904?crid=1UZ348ZV6FW5F&amp;keywords=quality+improvement+handbook&amp;qid=1644695908&amp;s=books&amp;sprefix=quality+improvement+handbook%2Cstripbooks%2C64&amp;sr=1-3&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=sixsigma09-20&amp;linkId=ca185cf4b3d61518efa8c74c947be4c5&amp;language=en_US&amp;ref_=as_li_ss_tl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6074 size-full\" title=\"asq-quality-improvement-handbook-certification\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/asq-quality-improvement-handbook-certification.jpg\" alt=\"ASQ Quality Improvement Handbook Certification\" width=\"501\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/asq-quality-improvement-handbook-certification.jpg 501w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/asq-quality-improvement-handbook-certification-300x126.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The general trend is to use a third party in a lower cost country to perform these support functions for the company.<\/p>\n<p>And this makes sense: support functions like the ones I describe above are perfect processes for the implementation of Lean and Six Sigma. And with the massive outflow of these types of jobs from the United States and elsewhere to India, it makes sense that the demand and interest for Lean Training, Six Sigma Training, and Certification has grown correspondingly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6062 aligncenter\" title=\"lean-six-sigma-bangalore\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-bangalore.jpg\" alt=\"lean six sigma bangalore\" width=\"575\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-bangalore.jpg 1198w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-bangalore-600x214.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By region in India, the following have the most interest in &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bangalore<\/li>\n<li>Chennai<\/li>\n<li>Mumbai<\/li>\n<li>Hyderabad<\/li>\n<li>Delhi<\/li>\n<li>Mahape<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If we overlayed the number of BPO companies in these locations, I believe that there will be a good match between the number of BPO companies and search interest from Google Trends.<\/p>\n<p>Common Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Lean Six Sigma projects are typically on behalf of the client and can be the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase First Call Resolution [for client&#8230;]<\/li>\n<li>Reduce inbound non-revenue generating contacts [for client&#8230;]<\/li>\n<li>Improve CSAT (Customer Satisfaction) [for client&#8230;]<\/li>\n<li>Improve Net Promoter Score (NPS) [for client&#8230;]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From a historical perspective, below is a the search term &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221; in India, over time, from 2004 to today:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6064 aligncenter\" title=\"lean-six-sigma-india-growth\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-india-growth.jpg\" alt=\"lean six sigma india growth\" width=\"587\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-india-growth.jpg 1087w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-india-growth-600x189.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Based on the chart above, there was a significant jump in interest for the term &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221; around March 2009. I wonder what happened in March 2009 that led to that spike.<\/p>\n<h2>Lean Six Sigma in the United States<\/h2>\n<p>Second on the worldwide regional list for &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221; is the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The growth pattern for the search term &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221; is very interesting for the United States:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6066 aligncenter\" title=\"lean-six-sigma-growth-united-states-certification\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-growth-united-states-certification.jpg\" alt=\"lean six sigma growth united states training certification\" width=\"610\" height=\"151\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An interesting pattern emerges for the search term &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221; &#8211; there is a dip toward the end of the fiscal year and a big spike at the beginning of the proceeding fiscal year. I don&#8217;t know exactly what is driving that behavior, but my guess is that corporate budgets are depleted toward the end of the year and replenished at the beginning of the year and interest in Lean Training and Six Sigma Training follows the same pattern.<\/p>\n<p>By region in the United States, below is the interest map for the search term &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6068 aligncenter\" title=\"lean-six-sigma-training-united-states\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-training-united-states.jpg\" alt=\"lean six sigma training united states\" width=\"588\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-training-united-states.jpg 1089w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/lean-six-sigma-training-united-states-600x216.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By Region in the United States, these are the areas that appear to show the most interest in &#8220;Lean Six Sigma&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Norfolk<\/li>\n<li>Pensacola<\/li>\n<li>Washington<\/li>\n<li>Columbus<\/li>\n<li>Rochester<\/li>\n<li>San Antonio<\/li>\n<li>Minneapolis<\/li>\n<li>Dallas<\/li>\n<li>San Diego<\/li>\n<li>Atlanta<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what exactly is driving interest for Lean Six Sigma in these regions.
