The question is how we respond to adversity.<\/p>\n<p>At some point, each of us will face adversity &#8211; whether it be in our personal life or in our professional life &#8211; none of us are immune to hardship or adversity.<\/p>\n<p>The question for each of us today is this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>How will I respond when things get hard?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Put another way,<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Will you become <a title=\"sometimes waiting in line can make people mad\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/queueing-theory-part-4\/195\/\">bitter and angry<\/a> at your circumstances?<\/li>\n<li>or, Will you choose the better part, maintaining a healthy attitude, positivity, and a clear mind?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>What are you going to choose?<\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite poems is from General Douglas MacArthur. His poem, &#8220;Build me a Son&#8221;, is one that I turn to from time to time. I hope it helps you too.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Build me a son, O Lord,<br \/>\nwho will be strong enough to know when he is weak,<br \/>\nand brave enough to face him self when he is afraid;<br \/>\none who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat,<br \/>\nand humble and gentle in victory.<\/p>\n<p>Build me a son whose wishbone will not be<br \/>\nwhere his backbone should be;<br \/>\na son who will know Thee- and that<br \/>\nto know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort,<br \/>\nbut under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge.<br \/>\nHere, let him learn to stand up in the storm;<br \/>\nhere, let him team compassion for those who fall.<\/p>\n<p>Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goals will be high;<br \/>\na son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men;<br \/>\none who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep;<br \/>\none who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.<\/p>\n<p>And after all these things are his,<br \/>\nadd, I pray, enough of a sense of humor,<br \/>\nso that he may always be serious,<br \/>\nyet never take himself too seriously.<\/p>\n<p>Give him humility, so that he may always remember<br \/>\nthe simplicity of true greatness,<br \/>\nthe open mind of true wisdom,<br \/>\nthe meekness of true strength.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<!--CusAds0-->\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It rains on all of us.
