and most companies don&#8217;t even know it.\u00a0 As reference, the 7 Wastes are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Transportation<\/li>\n<li>Inventory<\/li>\n<li>Motion<\/li>\n<li>Waiting<\/li>\n<li>Overproduction<\/li>\n<li>Overprocessing<\/li>\n<li>Defects<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>But what about the burden on the earth?\u00a0 In this series, I&#8217;ll attempt to highlight the Toyota 7 Wastes and their impacts on the environment.\u00a0 Today, we&#8217;ll begin with Overproduction.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More raw materials and energy is consumed in making the unnecessary products<\/li>\n<li>Extra products may spoil or become obsolete, requiring disposal<\/li>\n<li>Extra hazardous material used result in extra emissions, extra waste disposal, worker exposure<\/li>\n<li>More space is required to hold overproduced products<\/li>\n<li>Possible write-downs or over-discounting because of over-supply of products, harming business profitability and possibly leading to employee layoffs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>It&#8217;s Your Turn<\/h2>\n<p>What other environmental impacts come from the waste of overproduction?\u00a0 Does it matter?\u00a0 Thinking about how to reduce Overproduction, how would you do that for environmentally-specific problems?\u00a0 Would Kanban work just as effectively?\u00a0 Don&#8217;t build unless there&#8217;s a customer pull to build?<\/p>\n<!--CusAds0-->\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px;
