means that the user of the measurement system knows how close he\/she is to that target.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Linear<\/strong>: Regardless of who uses the measurement system, it means the same for me\u00a0 and works the same for me as it does for someone else.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Repeatable<\/strong>: <strong>If I<\/strong> use the measurement system the same way, over and over again, I should get the same results.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reproducible<\/strong>: <strong>If other people<\/strong> use the measurement system the same way as me, over and over again, they should get the same results.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Summarizing the characteristics above into a simple 2&#215;2 table, we get the following:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2095 size-full\" title=\"accuracy-precision-msa-shmula\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/accuracy-precision-msa-shmula.jpg\" alt=\"accuracy-precision-msa-shmula\" width=\"685\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/accuracy-precision-msa-shmula.jpg 685w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/accuracy-precision-msa-shmula-600x458.jpg 600w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/accuracy-precision-msa-shmula-300x229.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In other words,<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Our measurement systems can be accurate and precise.<\/li>\n<li>Our measurement systems can be not accurate and precise.<\/li>\n<li>Our measurement systems can be accurate and not precise.<\/li>\n<li>Our measurement systems can be not accurate and not precise.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Your process or task is likely described by one of the above characteristics.\u00a0 Where should your process be?\u00a0 It depends.\u00a0 If the risk is low, then how precise or accurate you are might not matter so much.\u00a0 But, if the risks are high, such as in health care, pharmaceuticals, aviation, or other high-risk area, being precise and accurate is very, very important.<\/p>\n<h2>Motivation and Behavior<\/h2>\n<p>If it is known that a measurement system is bogus &#8211;
