Regardless of where lean thinking is applied:\u00a0lean practitioners in <a title=\"lean principle of kanban in software development\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/kanban-for-creative-knowledge-work-interview-with-david-j-anderson\/14755\/\">software<\/a>, in lean startups, manufacturing, <a title=\"apply lean principles to healthcare\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/improving-healthcare-with-lean-with-mark-graban\/14659\/\">healthcare<\/a>, and others &#8211; what are they like?<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my stab at that description.<\/p>\n<p>Lean Thinkers and Lean Practitioners are High-Yield, Low-Maintenance people.<\/p>\n<p>They are usually low-profile, but they go about doing good, adding and multiplying value in a quiet and humble way, often deflecting credit to their team members and others.<\/p>\n<p>Very credible and skilled.<\/p>\n<p>But, they are often passionate, often teaching and coaching others with conviction and drive and personal interest.\u00a0 They also do the right thing, sometimes with permission and concensus, sometimes without permission but with full accountability.<\/p>\n<p>They are leaders; sometimes not in a formal role or function of a &#8220;leader&#8221;, but they lead and serve those around them, thereby earning high levels of trust and influence.<\/p>\n<p>They care.\u00a0 They are sincere.\u00a0 Down-to-Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Imperfect human beings and they know it and don&#8217;t hide it.\u00a0 But they try.<\/p>\n<p>Humble.<\/p>\n<h2>Did I Just Describe Your Grandpa?<\/h2>\n<p>In speaking with a friend about this, he commented &#8220;I think we just described my Grandpa.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, and that&#8217;s okay.<\/p>\n<p>Wise too.<\/p>\n<h2>You Can Tell Who is Phony<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s true.\u00a0 Test what I describe above against your experience.\u00a0 More often than not, you&#8217;ll see that the &#8220;true&#8221; practitioners of lean thinking fit the description above well; but, more often than not, those who don&#8217;t are most likely phony.<\/p>\n<h2>It Your Turn<\/h2>\n<p>How would you describe the lean thinkers and practitioners that you associate with?\u00a0 Do you agree or disagree with what I&#8217;m claiming?\u00a0 Does it matter?<\/p>\n<p>Feel free to disagree.\u00a0 Share what&#8217;s on your mind.<\/p>\n<!--CusAds0-->\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Much has been written explaining &#8220;What is Lean?&#8221; or similar articles.\u00a0 But, little has been said describing what a Lean Practitioner is like.
