This is the case with the Rug Doctor Troubleshooting Process Map. Let me explain.<\/p>\n<p>Several weeks ago, Adam Richardson, a writer I follow on Harvard Business Review posted a funny tweet about a problem he had with a Rug Doctor Rented machine.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, Adam had an issue with a rented upholstery tool. It wasn&#8217;t quite an <a title=\"medical alert symbol for emergencies\" href=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/medical-alert-visual-management\/4881\/\">emergency<\/a>, but it was pretty funny and confusing.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s his tweet:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11879\" title=\"adam richardson twitter page\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/tweet-from-adam-richardson.png\" alt=\"adam richardson harvard business review twitter\" width=\"512\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/tweet-from-adam-richardson.png 512w, https:\/\/staging.opexlearning.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/tweet-from-adam-richardson-300x127.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Out of curiosity, I clicked on the link he posted and found the Rug Doctor Troubleshooting process map. What I found was a very troubled process map &#8211; yes. Now, when the problem is the tool that you are using to describe the situation or problem is, itself, the problem, then it&#8217;ll be very difficult to fix the initial and original problem. This highlights the importance of effectively and properly using problem solving tools. If applied incorrectly, then we&#8217;ll be missing the mark and we&#8217;ll either do one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ll conclude that the tool itself was flawed.<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ll conclude that we&#8217;re not smart enough to solve the problem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do you see the issue? Neither of the options above are correct. The problem is really in our implementation of the problem solving tool.
