A run chart is one of the 7 quality tools. It’s a simple tool that allows you to see data over time. By seeing a time series, you can spot potential trends that may point to concern or not.

The excel format run chart template is easy to use. You just need to enter the following:
- Timeframe Units – either day, week, month, hour – whatever is relevant for your process.
- Actual results of your process
- The goal – this is usually an arbitrary number, but it’s not entirely pulled out of the air. It comes from a historical average and the goal is usually a number lower than the historical average.
- The average results for your process.
After you enter these data in the worksheet, the next tab in the excel template will automatically form a run chart that you can then copy into a PowerPoint Presentation.
